Private Property - Notify the DEC Regional Wildlife Office at 631-444-0310 to determine what actions are necessary for submission or disposal of the wildlife on private property. If unavailable, call the DEC Wildlife Health Unit directly at 518-478-2203. Head of the Harbor Highway Dept. DOES NOT remove deer from private property. The village of Head of the Harbor Highway Department currently employs three fulltime workers to maintain approximately 20 miles of roadways.
Work hours are from 7 AM until 3:30 PM, for an 8 hr. workday, with the workweek being Monday through Friday.
The crew is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency tree removal, snowstorms, and other weather related events.
Duties include, but are not limited to:

- Drainage Repairs
- Roadway Maintenance
- Lawn Maintenance
- Snow Plowing
- Highway Equipment Maintenance
- Refuse collection is contracted through the Town of Smithtown. Please be reminded that there is NO yard waste pickup available to incorporated villages. All yard waste must be disposed of privately.
