The Village of Head-of-the-Harbor Police department provides round-the-clock uniformed police service to nearly 500 homes and 1,500 village residents. The police department has a staff of 18 members, who in cooperation with the community, are committed to providing a safe and secure environment in the Village of Head-of-the-harbor through the professional discharge of their duties.
Our department is dispatched by Suffolk County Police Department communications bureau over the fourth precinct radio band. All calls for service in the Village, including fire and ambulance, should be made through the 911 systems. Only requests for general information or vacant home notices should be made through the office phone. To do otherwise will only cause serious delay in response, or no response at all.
We work closely with our neighboring departments, Nissequogue and Suffolk County, which serves to ensure continuity of service to all area residents through this cooperation.
This web site shall be expanded in the near future to include a wide array of services this department currently provides. We are also interested in any suggestions you may have for additions to this site. Please mail them to Chief Thompson, 500 North Country Rd., St. James, NY 11780.
