The Village will repair a damaged mailbox or replace a mailbox when the Commissioner of Highways, or his designee, determines that a plow physical hit the mailbox. The determination will be made by observation of cut marks, paint taken off plow blade, etc. Repairs will be made only if it can be accomplished with minimum effort and expense. Otherwise it will be replaced by a standard mailbox on a prefabricated 4x4 pressure treated wood post with support arm.
Heavy snow coming off the plow blade may knock over and damage mailboxes which have not been adequately mounted or braced or those mailboxes whose doors have been left open. The Village will not fix or replace mailboxes which have been damaged by private contractors, homeowners clearing snow, errant motorist, etc.
Residents who believe that a Village snow plow has damaged their mailbox should contact the Village Highway Department immediately and not attempt any repair or replacement until the mailbox has been inspected in place by the Commissioner of Highways or his designee. Village residents who repair or replace damaged mailboxes before it has been inspected will not be reimbursed for such repair or replacement.
